THEN
In September 1931 AFN Limited began production of the bodies for what was to become the most prominent Frazer Nash model ever built, the TT Replica. This was based on and developed from the Works Meadows engined racing cars MV158 and MV159 which both competed in the Tourist Trophy (TT) race in Northern Ireland earlier that year

MV1764 however started life in 1932 as an Exeter model Frazer Nash. Its first owner R.N Commander Terry Grogan had it rebodied as a TT Replica later that year, complete with supercharged Meadows engine (no. 10371), in which form he recorded a Brooklands lap speed record of 113mph in December 1932. He continued to race the car extensively throughout 1933 until naval duties took him abroad the following year.
NOW
MV 1764 remains a classic TT Replica, with Elkington TT panelled two seater body, folding windscreen and flared front wings, so typical of the 1932 to 1933 period. Hydraulic brakes (fitted in period) and coil ignition are the only significant concessions to 21st century motoring. A superb road car, MV 1764 has attended every Frazer Nash "Raid" since the first one of 1969, and continues to be a regular competitor at VSCC speed hillclimbs and sprint events.

HISTORY AFTER R.T.GROGAN

It is believed that MV1764 was sold to a Mr Johnson in 1934 and thereafter to various owners until it was purchased from Peter Sweet in 1964 by Freddie Giles, who went on to campaign it in a wide range of events for over 50 years.
(see owners section)

Very little is known about the owners and history of the car in the 30 year interval between Grogan's and Freddie's ownerships - If you have further information please get in touch - see contact section

Following Freddie's death in 2016, his wife Janet became MV's new custodian and continues to campaign the car with assistance from son Jon.

Alpine Trial
Featuring MV1764

The Alpine Trial of 2017 was organised by Louise Bunting and Richard Parsons, the outright winners of the 2007 event (in their 1930 FN Interceptor, PG 7028). Undoubtedly the two most challenging events ever put on by the FNCC, they commemorate and pay tribute to the historic Alpine Trials of the 1930’s, in which AFN and their chain drive Meadows Frazer Nashes had been so successful.
